What is the Cost of a Website?
Prices for Web sites vary and the manners in which those prices are determined also fluctuate.
Some web designers/developers charge by the hour. We don't.
We'd much rather give our client a proposal for the required work necessry than make a quote on a per hour basis. If we were to charge $60/hr and work slowly it would disadvantage the client. That's not fair! Instead, we prefer to educate the client on the types of services we can provide, the type services that meet the client's needs, bring those two concepts together, and then assess for those services.
Average Price Ranges
A simple site, approximately five pages, two links and two images per page, will usually cost around $500.
A mid-range site, approximately ten pages, two links and two images per page, an interactive contact page, original photos, and one or two basic uses of Flash or other fancy technology will usually cost around $1,500-3,000.
A complex site, approximately twenty pages, two to five links and multiple images per page, interactive contact page, a photo gallery, databases, a shopping cart, security updates, encryption, will usually cost around $5,000-10,000 (maybe more).
It depends on how intense each page is, the number of pages, how interactive the site is, and the type of techniques and technologies needed to complete the job.
A site like Amazon.com probably costs a million dollars.
As you can imagine, that site is extremely complex.
It would be difficult to give a price for a house without knowing the specifics of a particular house. The square footage, number of rooms, location, type of materials used to build the house, special features such as solar energy or a pool, etc. will change the value of that house. Creating websites and determining their values can be as complex as determining the value of a home.
